Privacy policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

This privacy policy explains how TJ Tyres & Auto Pty Ltd (ABN 27 699 754 535), trading as TJ Tyres & Auto (we, us, our), collects, uses, stores and shares your personal information. It applies to our website at tjtyresandauto.com.au, our workshop, and any promotions, competitions or marketing we run.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. What we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details, such as your name, phone number, email address, postal or billing address and postcode.
  • Vehicle details, such as make, model, year, registration, VIN, odometer reading, and the work, parts, tyres and wheels fitted to it.
  • Service and purchase history, such as quotes, bookings, invoices, payments and warranty claims.
  • Business details, if you deal with us on behalf of a business, such as the business name, ABN and your role.
  • Payment information. Online card payments are processed by Shopify and its payment partners, and in-store payments by our payment terminal provider. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Competition and promotion entries, including the details you enter on an entry form and the marketing choices you make.
  • Communications, such as emails, messages, calls and enquiries you send us.
  • Website information, such as your device, browser, IP address, pages visited and items viewed or added to your cart, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

We collect most information directly from you: in person, by phone, by email, or through our website and forms. We may also receive information from people acting for you (for example, a fleet manager or someone booking on your behalf), from vehicle dealers or partners who refer you to us, and from our service providers.

You can deal with us without giving your name where that is practical, such as a general price enquiry. We will usually need your details to quote, book, carry out and invoice work on your vehicle.

2. How we use it

We use your personal information to:

  • provide quotes, book and carry out work on your vehicle, order parts, and process payments and orders;
  • keep service records for your vehicle, so we can advise you on future work and handle warranty claims;
  • contact you about your job, booking, order or enquiry;
  • run competitions and promotions, including conducting draws, contacting and publishing winners, and awarding prizes;
  • send you marketing, but only where you have agreed to receive it (see section 4);
  • run, secure and improve our website and business, including preventing fraud; and
  • meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

3. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed for the purposes above, including with:

  • Service providers that run our business systems, including Shopify (website and online store), Bigin by Zoho (customer database and enquiry forms), our workshop management software, Xero (accounting) and our email, SMS and payment providers;
  • Suppliers and manufacturers, where needed to order parts or make a warranty claim on a product fitted to your vehicle;
  • People you authorise, such as a business or fleet you are dealing with us for;
  • Our professional advisers, such as our accountant and lawyers; and
  • Government bodies or others, where the law requires or allows it.

Our service providers may only use your information to provide their services to us, with one exception: we use Shopify's Network Intelligence feature, which allows Shopify to use customer data from our online store, together with other Shopify data, to improve its products, ad targeting and personalisation. More information is in Shopify's privacy policy at privacy.shopify.com.

4. Marketing

We will only send you marketing by email or SMS if you have agreed to receive it, for example by ticking the marketing box on a form. Every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also opt out at any time by contacting us. Opting out of marketing doesn't stop us contacting you about a job, booking, order or competition entry.

If we run advertising on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or Google, those platforms may use cookies and website activity to show our ads to you. You can manage this through your browser settings and your settings on those platforms.

5. Competitions and promotions

When you enter a competition or promotion we run, we use your entry details to run it, contact winners, and publish winners' names as set out in that promotion's terms and conditions (usually first name, last initial and suburb). Entries are stored in our customer database. We keep entry and draw records for as long as the law requires.

6. Storage, security and overseas disclosure

We store personal information in secure systems and take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, change or disclosure. Access is limited to our team members who need it for their work.

Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia. For example, Shopify may process data in Canada, the United States and other countries. We choose reputable providers and take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information appropriately.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy or as required by law (for example, tax records must be kept for five years). After that, we delete or de-identify it.

7. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days, and may need to confirm your identity first. If we can't give you access, we will tell you why.

8. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to fix it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
